About the Long Island Mariners...

Since 1992 the Long Island Mariners Youth Baseball Organization has been providing competitive baseball for serious ballplayers ranging in age from 13 through 18.

Our teams are in session Spring, Summer and Fall, with Winter workouts during the months of January, February and March.

The founder and current president John Campolettano is dedicated in creating an organization that will encourage the teaching of sound fundamental baseball techniques which will result in competitive baseball and a winning atmosphere.

The Long Island Mariners are well respected among all the local colleges for the player personnel that make up the organization.

All of the Mariners coaches are highly motivated, skilled professionals that enjoy teaching, coaching, and making baseball part of their everyday life.

Former L.I. Mariners Player Signs

Free Agent Contract with Phillies Organization

Long Island, NY – Former Long Island Mariners player, Kevin Salmon signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization during this past year. Kevin played with the Long Island Mariners Organization in 2002 under the guidance of coach Randy Caden. Kevin was a tremendous all around athlete. However, it was on the mound that Kevin elevated his game. He threw a no-hitter that summer and pitched well in all tournaments played. The Mariners organization wishes him well during his pro career. He finished this season pitching for the Phillies Minor League affiliate in Batavia, NY.

Baseball's Salmon Signs Free Agent Contract

with Philadelphia

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s Kevin Salmon (Brentwood, N.Y./Briarcliffe C.C.) has signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and will report to its short-season affiliate in Batavia, N.Y., the organization announced.

Salmon appeared in 21 games during the 2006 season for the Chanticleers, making seven starts. He had a 4-4 record with a 4.68 earned-run average and 49 strikeouts in 57.2 innings. He won his last two decisions of the season, including striking out seven in 6.2 innings while giving up only three hits and no runs in a win over Radford May 12. He struck out a season- and career-high nine in a 22-6 win over George Mason Feb. 19. Against Tennessee on Feb. 26, he struck out five in five innings. For his career at Coastal, Salmon was 5-5 with 71 strikeouts in 98.1 innings.

Salmon joins Mike Fuentes (Miami, Fla./North Florida C.C.) as 2006 Chanticleers in the Phillies organization. Fuentes currently is playing for the Phillies team in the Gulf Coast League.

Coastal ends its season with a 30-27 record and a third-place finish in the Big South regular season.
